Senior attackman Talor Wright added five points on three goals and two assists, and junior middie Derek Sudderth finished with four points on three goals and one assist to help the Eagles (2-2) snap a two-game losing streak.

In a losing effort, senior middie Luke Loussau scored four goals and had one assist for St. Michael’s (0-1), which lost its season opener.

St. Michael’s made a game of it in the fourth, getting as close as 11-9. But Brown capped off the victory when he scored his sixth of the night with 27 seconds remaining in regulation.

“We played our most complete game of the season so far,” Georgetown head coach Scott Conrad said. “We were missing a couple key players tonight, and our team stepped up as a whole to fill the void.”

Georgetown Girls Win First-Ever Varsity Game, 6-4

Earlier this month, the Georgetown boys lacrosse team won its first-ever varsity game. On Saturday, it was the girls’ turn to make history.

Senior middie Bethany Wallace registered a game-high four points on two goals and two assists to lead the Eagles to a 6-4 victory over Stony Point in the first girls lacrosse varsity game in school history.

Junior attack Marija Stalevic added three goals, and junior defender Molly Greenfield scored once to help Georgetown (1-0) get its first win in a Texas Girls High School Lacrosse League Central District game.

Defensively, sophomore goalie Amy Castillo saved six shots.

Stony Point fell to 1-3.

It took Georgetown 25 minutes to get going. Stony Point led 2-0 at halftime, but Georgetown used a 5-1 run in the second half to take control.

Stalevic scored the go-ahead goal with 6:11 remaining in regulation to put Georgetown ahead 4-3, and Wallace gave the Eagles a two-goal cushion when she scored with 3:16 to play. Stony Point pulled a goal back 46 seconds later, but it couldn’t get the equalizer, and Greenfield put the cherry on top of the win when she scored with five seconds left.

“I was really excited about the way the team played,” Georgetown head coach Terri Conrad said. “Although we started with some jitters at the beginning, in the second half our center, Bethany Wallace, really took over. I think our hard work really paid off.”

Defensively, freshman goalie Tat Whitley saved 10 shots.

In defeat, senior attackman Jody Brown scored a team-high four goals, and senior attackman Derek Sudderth added three goals for Georgetown (1-2), which lost its second straight.

In the fourth quarter, McCallum pushed its lead to as high as five goals. When Bowen scored with 7:17 remaining in regulation, it gave the Knights their biggest lead of the game at 12-7.

“I think our team performed exceptionally,” Steinman said. “We figured out what we needed to do, and we did it, especially when it counted.”

Said Georgetown head coach Scott Conrad: "I was pleased with my team's effort. Even when trailing big, the guys never gave up and showed a lot of support for one another."

Hunter Harrison Lifts Lake Travis Past Georgetown

Freshman middie Hunter Harrison scored his only goal with 2:11 remaining in overtime to give Lake Travis a 4-3 victory over Georgetown in a Texas High School Lacrosse League Central District Division II game Monday night.

Harrison fired home a low shot from 13 yards, unassisted, to give the Cavaliers (2-1) their second overtime victory of the season.

Sophomore middie Reed Cook finished with a team-high two points on a goal and an assist, and Harrison, sophomore middie Talon Ceshker and junior attackman Andreas Soto all scored once for Lake Travis.

Defensively, sophomore goalie Brantley Salem saved eight shots.

In defeat, Jody Brown scored a game-high two goals for Georgetown, which fell to 1-1.

In a back-and-forth, tight defensive battle, Georgetown led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter and 2-1 at halftime before Lake Travis took a 3-2 lead in the third quarter. Georgetown equalized in the fourth to force the extra session, but the Cavaliers once again came through in the clutch, like they did in their season-opening win over McNeil.

“This is a good win for us, but this is a team that needs to perform more consistently,” Lake Travis assistant coach Mike Galvin said. “We need to find a way to score more goals, because we have a good defense, so it’s going to come down to whether we can put the ball in the cage.”

Georgetown Tops Vista Ridge in First-Ever Game

The Georgetown boys lacrosse team made quite a splash in its varsity debut Thursday night.

Senior attackman Jody Brown scored a game-high six goals to lead the Eagles to a 10-6 victory over Vista Ridge in a Texas High School Lacrosse League Central District Division II game.

Senior attackman Talor Wright added five points on two goals and three assists, and senior middie Ben Wolfman had three points on two goals and one assist for Georgetown (1-0).

Defensively, senior goalie Taylor Reynolds saved 12 shots.

“We’re in a unique situation, because with none of these guys having played before, teams are going to take us lightly and chalk us up as an easy win,” Georgetown head coach Scott Conrad said. “But we’ve got a lot of seniors on this team who are picking up the game fast, and we’ve got great leadership from our senior captains.”

In defeat, six players all scored once for Vista Ridge (0-1), which fell in its season opener.

Georgetown led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, the game was tied, 4-4, at halftime and the Eagles led 8-5 at the end of the third. Georgetown eventually led by as many as five goals at 10-5 after Brown scored his sixth of the game with 3:51 remaining.

Vista Ridge pulled one back in the final minute, but it was too little, too late at that point.

“(Our captains) have really set the tone for our team,” Conrad added. “What we lack in experience and stick skills, we try to make up for in hard work and effort.”

GEORGETOWN LACROSSE GOES UNDEFEATED IN FIRST LACROSSE TOURNAMENT

Team Finishes 2-0-1 at Westlake Round Robin Tournament

The Georgetown High School Boys Lacrosse team competed in their first-ever action at Westlake High School on Saturday, November 14.  The Varsity and Junior Varsity teams combined as one and played together with a roster of forty players.  It was the first time thirty-seven of the forty players had ever competed in the sport and the team shined throughout the day.

The inaugural game for the program was played against Division One Junior Varsity team Cedar Park.  After a stalemate in the first few minutes Georgetown got on the board with a goal from a fast break and never looked back.  The team went on to tally nine more goals with senior co-captains Jody Brown and Talor Wright combining for three goals and three assists and senior Devin Fredrickson tallied two goals himself.  The defense, led by co-captain James Sebesta and goalies Taylor Reynolds and Regen McLaurin held strong throughout, allowing only one goal in a 10-1 win.

Game two was a 6-2 victory over rival McNeil.  Senior midfielder Captain Ben Wolfman lead the offense with two goals and Junior attackman John Slater added a goal and two assists.  Goalies Taylor Reynolds and Regen McLaurin had several key saves to secure the victory for Georgetown.

The third and final game was an intense and spirited game against hosts Westlake.  The game was in the balance throughout, and Georgetown rallied from a 3-1 deficit to force a 5-5 tie.  Wright added three more points to his total for the day in a hard-fought effort against a stellar Westlake team.

Georgetown returns to action Saturday, December 12 against Vandegrift in a scrimmage at GHS.  The regular season kicks off February 4, 2010 against local rival Vista Ridge at GHS.
